Investitures / Moving Section

Investitures

Your child will usually be invested a few weeks after they have joined the section. They will need to have their new uniform for the investiture and will they will need to learn and understand the section promises and law which are below. There is a joining fee of £5 payable at investiture to cover the cost of the necker and badges

We welcome parents at all investitures.

Moving Section

When the time comes to move up to the next age range we are aware that a young person can have mixed feelings: excitement at moving on, sadness at leaving friends behind. We want to make this transition as smooth as possible so they can settle into their new section.

There is no need to put your child on a waiting list for the next section as the section leaders will co-ordinate the transition. There is usually a transition period of about 6 weeks where your child will attend their current section meetings and the new section meeting. If your child has friends in their section that they want to move up with please make your section leader aware of this so that they can help if possible.

If your child has just moved up from Beavers to Cubs, or from Cubs to Scouts then they should wear the old uniform until they are invested. Your child will receive a new World Membership Badge (purple circle), a new Monmouthshire district badge (a black rectangle worn on the right sleeve) and a new Group name tape (above the County / district badge) when they are invested. Please transfer some of the old badges like the staged badges, years in Scouting badge and Chief Scout award if gained to the new uniform and continue to use the old necker.

There is no need to set up a new standing order for fees as fees are paid to the Group and not the Section.
